Sophomore Year Posts (Spring 2003)

The spring semester of my sophomore year marked the beginning of any sort of regular writing which wasn't mandated by school. Of my own volition, I chose to start posting simple thoughts, schedules and experiences during this year. Unbeknownst to me at the time, these simple posts would lead to the eventual writing of The Chile Updates and 400 Days of Young Adult Life... =)

2/10/03 - Lots of stuff happening in the next two weeks! Needing to rely on God every moment of every day and trust in His strength to sustain me!

2/11/03 - God is awesome! It's only Tuesday but I feel that I'm accomplishing the tasks that are placed before me for each day through God's grace.

In other news, I still need to think up stuff to write about me... ideas? Let me know! =)

2/12/03 - Long day ahead... schedule as follows:
10 - 11AM: World History Lecture
12 - 1PM: World History Recitation
1:30 - 3PM: Corporate Finance
3 - 4:30PM: Business & Public Policy
4:30 - 6:30PM: Elementary Korean II

So yesterday, February 11th, at around 2AM, Haksu and Jason barge into my room demanding to know "What's her name?" =) Haha, so very truthfully, I answered negatively. Not entirely sure they believed me, but they can't "break me" since I've been honest. It's nice being younger than everyone cuz that makes everyone ineligible and I don't have to worry about it. =D
Additionally, today's Verse of the Day reflects pretty much the way I view my relations with older/younger men/women (ie: all people) or try to anyway. Agreed? =)

In other news, I *still* need to think up stuff to write about me... ideas? Anyone have any templates that I can use to fill in stuff about me? Let me know! =)

2/13/03 - Switched the positions of VoD and News cuz it looked unbalanced. =)

Hurray! 25% of my BPUB grade got turned in yesterday... by this time next week, I'll be done w/ 50% of my BPUB grade. =D

I somehow managed to get what I needed to get done yesterday and went visiting people... only a few people were home but it's all good. =)

Oooh. I finished my readings in my NKJV "Extreme Word" yesterday and get to start my NLT "The Promise Bible" starting today. Eventually, the VoD will catch up and switch over to the NLT translation... aiming to be reading NASB by this Fall when I'm in Chile... ambitious maybe, but I think it'll be good for me. =)

I think I'll make my daily schedule part of my news updates: =)
10 - 11AM: Management 101 Recitation
11AM - 12PM: Swimming @ Pottruck
12PM - 3PM: Errands and miscellaneous tasks including going to Campus Copy Center, turning in my Study Abroad application, and shopping for gifts
3PM: Meeting w/ Jeanie
4:30 - 7PM: BPUB Meeting
7 - 8:30PM: Prayer Meeting

Entering the home stretch... single digits remaining!!

2/14/03 - Wow. New insights from reading the New Living Translation and comparing it with the NKJV that I read over the past year. Craziness. God speaks to me in different ways every time I read His word. =)

Apparently it's going to snow again over the weekend. It's crazy how cold and snowy it's been this year! Looking forward to going back to Los Angeles to enjoy the weather. According to weather.com it's stopped raining in LA now. =)

On a sad note, I have a history recitation to go to today at 10AM cuz I missed my recitation on Wednesday (shouldn't have taken that nap =P). But then again, that nap probably saved me the rest of the day. =)

Oh yeah, Happy Valentine's Day to my site visitors whoever you are! =)

2/15/03 - Read 1st Corinthians yesterday. All Scripture really *is* God-breathed and able to teach, rebuke, correct and train me in righteousness so that I can be equipped to do God's work! So many revelations even though I know I've read the text in other translations before. =)

Pastor Matt's sermon last night was awesome. Really need to live wholehearted for God and rise above mediocrity. God's Word is our only offensive weapon and I need to be well versed so that I can be "thoroughly equipped" to overcome this world and live life to the fullest! As Christians, we need to "aim so high that we'll never be bored." =)

Not much planned for today... Swimming at Pottruck from 12 - 1PM. Up to 70 laps now. 12 sets of 4 laps freestyle and 1 lap breastroke for a total of 60 laps and then 6 laps sprint freestyle with 4 laps of breastroke to cool down. =) Goal is to eventually transition out the lap of breastroke to catch my breath and maybe get up to 100 laps per session. =)

GCC Praise Night approaching in one week. It looks like it'll be interesting for our family group anyway. =) Can't wait to see the video!

2/16/03 - Added two pics and a video to the FIRE Gallery =)

Slightly tired. Needing to be renewed by God. Worshipping and honoring God on the Lord's Day. =)

Wow. I think I never want to see flowers, especially roses, again for the rest of my life. =P Haha, I'll post why tomorrow. =)

Didn't get to go swim yesterday... apparently, there was a swim meet going on. =( Welps, there's always Tuesday and Thursday. =)

2/17/03 - YAY!!! SNOW DAY!!! Thank God for the snow that is a gift from above! =D Wow. Second day of school cancelled this semester cuz of snow! =) Then again, since we have like 1.25 feet or 1.5 feet or however many 12-15inches of snow and the park benches have no legs cuz of the snow, makes sense to cancel. =D

Weather.com Advisories:
"TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 18 TO 25 INCHES ARE EXPECTED." - YAY!! (Not that I like snow but since school is closed... yay!!!)
"ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS, YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK." - Crazy People are out playing football in the snow at 12:20AM. =) Reasonable minds have convinced me of the benefits of staying nice and warm inside. =D

**AIM News**: I'm added two new screennames for the sole purpose of GetFile'ing. =) Check my profile to find the links since my main SN will no longer upload to you! =)

And now, why I can't stand the sight of flowers (from 2/16/03 News):

- Flowers and ribbons and little cards *before* being put together for GCC WC.

- Looks nice afterwards though. But *mad* time-consuming. I will never again do such a thing again.=D

It's gonna be an awesome week!! =)

As an afterthought, I wonder if I have my History paper done and turned in. =P

2/18/03 - Weather update: Wow. There's like up to 2 feet of snow in some places!! Never seen sooo much snow in my life. I appreciate wonderful SoCal weather even more now! =)

I've come to the conclusion that I am a selfish human being. I admit it. There's no denying it. =(

The two verses for today are from my scripture readings from the past few days... It's amazing how God directs me to read those parts of His Word that are most relevant in my life even though His Word is so extensive. =)

Anyway, yeah, I've known for a while now that it really, really bothers me when somebody "uses" me to get something from me or wants me to do something for them. I guess it's cuz the only reason they talk to me is cuz they want something from me... you know the kind of people. I'm sure there are times that I "use" other people and I don't realize it, but things that I would freely do or freely give I can't seem to do with a joyful heart if I'm *asked* to do in these instances.

Why is that? Why is it that when somebody asks me for something or to do something, I think "man, they just want to use me" instead of offering them a double portion or going twice as far to help them as Jesus teaches? Like, I have no problem going all out serving by choice but not when asked. And I admit that everything I have is God's *anyway* so what's the big deal? <sigh> Needing God's grace and God's unconditional love to learn to give freely and willingly even when I know I'm being "used".

On a brighter note, I got my 76 laps (15 sets of 4 laps freestyle & 1 lap breastroke plus 7 laps sprint freestyle and 4 laps to warm down) at Pottruck yesterday and hopefully will get to do so today, too. =)

2/19/03 - This week is going by so quickly! It's so true that when I surrender my burdens and worries to God, He sustains me and gives me the strength and everything I need to get things done. =)

I discovered that my 76 laps of swimming adds up to 1900m or 1.1875 miles of swimming per session. So three times a week means that I swim 3.5625 miles a week which might be more than I walk? Think it's possible? =P Anyway, thinking I should just add four laps per session to make it a nice even 2km or 1.25 miles so that it adds up to a nice 3.75 miles a week. =)

Last three days till the Call. Really needing to pray more for God to move powerfully and to transform me even more that I may be more and more like Jesus everyday! =)

2/20/03 - Haha. Slept more than I planned to. Gotta update the schedule. =P

Today's Schedule:
11AM - 1PM: Mad studying for MGMT101 =)
1 - 1:30PM: Errands including getting my camera and my $96.93 check from Campus Copy Center after waiting like 2 weeks!
1:30 - 3PM: Spanish for the Professions
3 - 5:30PM: Mad studying for MGMT101 =)
5:30 - 6PM: Dropping by Haksu's Birthday dinner
6:30 - 8:30PM: Management 101 Midterm
9 - 10PM: Meeting
10 - 11PM: Swimming at Pottruck (1.25 miles!)

Last two days preceding the Call! Desiring to show diligence through the end! =)

So I didn't get to update the site for yesterday until like 8AM cuz I went to sleep early and didn't wake up as early as I had hoped to... got my paper done from 8 - 9:30AM but discovered another interesting fact. There were about 20 hits to my site between the hours of midnight and 8AM!! Who are you?! Haha, you don't have to tell me but keep visiting! I like seeing the counter go up... =P Now... if only I could get you to sign the guestbook... =D

Nice. The update for today will occur at a bit past midnight. Making up for yesterday. =)

2/21/03 - Welps. Back in Los Angeles today. =) Get to go to the DMV and get my picture taken for my Driver's License that they don't seem to want to give me... I must've sent the renewal from in the mail in around September. Then went into the DMV during November when I was home. And now they say they don't have a picture so I get to go in again. Oh joy! The wonders of bureaucracy! =P

One day left till the Call Los Angeles!!

One day left till GCC Praise Night! =)

2/22/03 - The Call Los Angeles

GCC Praise Night at Meyerson B1 at 7:00PM - If you're around, go!! =)

2/23/03 - Hopefully enjoying my last day in Cali. =) Flying back on the red-eye so that I can go to classes allllll day on the 24th. Have a group meeting at 8:30AM after I arrive at PHL at 6:30AMish. BPUB Presentation that will complete 50% of my BPUB grade on the 24th. =)

Welps. I'll update for Monday the 24th, when I get in from my flight. =)

2/24/03 - Back in Philadelphia after a long weekend. =) The Call Los Angeles was definitely worth the travel and the long days this past week. Will post more in tomorrow's news including pictures and a video clip (if I get around to making it =P). Have meetings and classes beginning at 8:45AM and ending around 11PM. =) If you're registered online to the LA Times (it's free), you can click here to view an article on The Call LA entitled "Sea of Youths Flocks to Revival to Praise God". =)

Have a great day!

2/25/03 - Wow. I can't believe spring break is less than two weeks away! Even though respite is just around the corner and the Call LA is past, I need to keep pressing on and continuing to be radical for God! =)

BPUB Presentation went well I think. I'm done with 50% of my BPUB grade! Hurrah! =)

The Call Los Angeles was awesome/blessing/challenging/etc. Haven't had time to make the video nor post up clips on this site. The pics are available on my GetFile though. =)

2/26/03 - Long day ahead again. =)

Anyway, I've posted some pictures from the Call Los Angeles and a short little video! =)

Spring Break's right around the corner and there's so much to do before then! Always like that but it'll be alright. =)

Nothing else much on my mind at this time. Tired and still needing to do some readings.

Can't wait till Thursday afternoon when I can look forward to a nice long weekend! =)

2/27/03 - No fear. Man can't do nothin' to me! =)

Things to do today:
10 - 11AM: Management Recitation
11 - 11:30AM: Off to 40th St. PO to Priority Mail a letter home. =)
11:30AM - 12:30PM: Getting my 1.25 mile swim at Pottruck.
1:30 - 3PM: Spanish for the Professions

So I'm currently using 49.0 / 50 MB allotted to me by Wharton and 18.77 / 20 MB allotted to me by SAS...

Website maintenance takes up a lot of time I've noticed... =)

2/28/03 - Had a stimulating discussion with the guys last night about the power of prayer. Like, do our prayers really affect God and how he intervenes in our lives and that of others? It's a tough question and a lot of theological debate is about the idea of predestination and such... not really going to go into that but the discussion just reminded me of how God's Word is always so relevant to me.

So the Verse of the Day has been coming from an archive of verses that have spoken to me from my drinking of the "pure milk of the word" (1st Peter 2:1-3) over the past however many weeks and months... the past verses have been from my readings in the New King James Version back in the first weeks of January. I have pages and pages of verses that I found really relevant but at the rate of one Verse of the Day, I'll be posting verses from my scripture readings today in 2004. =P So... I've decided to limit myself to picking *ONE* verse from what God is teaching me on any given day and use that and revert to the archives if and only if there are no relevant verses in my daily meditations on God's Word (which I found highly doubtful).

So back to what I was saying earlier... I was encouraged by Jeremiah 24:7 because God tells us that one day, even amidst all the sin in this world, God will call us back to Him and we will be His people and He will be our God! =)

Plans for today:
12 - 3PM: Wake up sometime... =)
6:45PM: DRL A-1 for preparation for GCC Friday Night Large Group
7:30 - 10PM: GCC Friday Night Large Group
10:15PM - 12AM: GCC Missions Movie and Prayer

and of course, I must study in that time between waking up and 6:45PM =)

3 midterms approaching March 5th so I better start studying!

3/1/03 - Firstly, I forgot to announce updates to the site. =) Added a commentary for the Call LA which you can view here!

There are two verses for today even though I said yesterday that I would try to limit myself to one verse because God spoke to me through both. =D

Anyway, as I continue delving into God's word, it's refreshing every time. Once again, God reminded me of the need to live righteously and for Him alone. God doesn't want our "praises" and outward acts of worship if we're not living righteously for Him! So yeah, just reminded me that Christ lives in me and that is why I can have hope and love and peace and every perfect gift that comes from the Father of Lights! =)

Hope you have a great first day of March! =)

3/2/03 - URGENT CALL FOR 03-03-03 TO BE A "WORLDWIDE DAY OF PRAYER" - That would be tomorrow! =)

Had the opportunity to go out with Frontline and evangelize door-to-door last night. It was an awesome time and I had the opportunity to share of God's awesome love for us and how He seeks us and desires that we love Him. One of the guys was sharing how God really seeks us and it's not by our "goodness" that we can strive to "be" god or reach god as in other religions. Once again, God reinforced this through scripture where God says that He has an everlasting love with which He has drawn us to Himself! =)

Today is the Lord's Day so don't forget to seek Him and honor Him!

3/3/03 - URGENT CALL FOR 03-03-03 TO BE A "WORLDWIDE DAY OF PRAYER" - That's today! =)

Basically, it’s “calling all Christians worldwide to a Worldwide Day of Prayer on Monday, March 3, 2003” and a request that “all Christian churches and individuals set aside at least 3 minutes to pray at 3:33 PM in their time zone on 03/03/03.” I hope you’ll just spend the less than 3 minutes it takes to read the content of this message, and allow God to challenge you to pray! =)

Pastor Young's message yesterday really was a call and challenge to our church to have a hunger for God. As followers of Christ, we really need to seek Him and His will in our lives. I guess God just wants me to know that I need wisdom and that I need to pray more. I have no idea what/where God is leading me as I progress through these years of college. I need a greater faith that He'll really hear me and reveal to me His awesome plans for me! =)

Long day but the end is in sight!

3/4/03 - Late update. I've been getting about 3-5 hours of sleep average the last few days... kinda sporadic sleep schedule but God's been giving me the strength to press on.

Today's verse is from the archives but it just reminded me that no matter how much I falter and change, Jesus will *always* be there and *always* be faithful. Very encouraging. =)

Three midterms tomorrow. Time to study and pray hardcore! =D

3/5/03 - Once again, God reminds me of my need to learn to give freely and willingly. =) I don't know how I don't ever remember reading this in the numerous times I've gone through Proverbs! There is indeed so much wisdom in God's word! =)

Today is officially declared "Midterm Day" in the land of Dan. =)
10AM - The World: History and Modernity - Map quiz and Essay Question.
1:30PM - Corporate Finance: 3 problems worth a lot of my grade. =)
4:30PM - Elementary Korean Midterm. Oooh. =P

After today, I will get to sleep a bit. Yay! =)

3/6/03 - Finally a chance to get some rest from a long week. =)

Still, getting up early to finish up some work and finish off this week well. Leaving campus around 4 - 4:30PM to catch my 6PM flight back to Los Angeles. I think I've devised a way for me to be able to update my site while I'm at home so the updates should continue no big deal. =)

Today's scripture reference is another reminder to me of how God searches the hearts of men and picks those who are humble and cannot succeed on their own to glorify Him! Need God to give me the words to speak and the ability to speak them well. =)

3/7/03 - Happy Birthday, Brian!! =P Today is that day that you've been dreading since high school... the day that you become... <drum roll please>... the big... TWENTY! =P

Haha, I wonder if you'll even read this but it'll be in the News Archives after today so you can come back and see your moment of fame. =P

Anyway, I have figured out a way to maintain my file system both at school and at home (sort of) so I am able to update my site. =) Not that anyone comes to look at it... from what I see in the guestbook anyway... =D

I'm home now and it's good to be back. God reminds me with everything around me of how He's blessed me in so many ways and that all that I have belongs to Him. =) Anyway, today's verse reminded me that even though throughout the old testament, I kept seeing instances of God searching the hearts of man and seeming to bless the younger, weaker, humbler, etc. son in place of the older... ie: Abel vs. Cain, David vs. all his older brothers, Jacob over Esau, Moses over Aaron, Joseph over his 11 brother, and so forth. I guess I was encouraged that God claims the firstborn as His own. =) Yay! God loves me! =)

**Website News**: GetFile has been disabled on all SNs and all files are now shared on FTP... click here to get Music and Pictures! =)

Welps, hope everyone's enjoying their spring breaks and stays safe and sound! =)

3/8/03 - Mmm... resting is tiring. =P

Technology is really really bothersome sometime... argh!

More updates tomorrow if I can figure this out.

3/9/03 - Looking forward to a week of relaxing and enjoying the California sun. Haven't had a chance yet to just sit and soak up all this goodness and reflect on how good God is! =)

Went to go "play" with my "toys" yesterday w/ PT, Matt and my brother. Fun times, good times. Adrenaline rush. Move. Duck. Cover fire. Hit! Hit! Flank left! NOW NOW NOW!! Two inbound left side! They're behind us! Move move move!! =P haha, yeah, it was fun even though it was a bit slow-paced at times. My shining moments... 4 confirmed (possibly 5) "eliminations" with my SR-16 in round 1. Completely flanked and annihilated my target w/ my pair of "hand-cannons" in the last game. =)

To top that off, went to go watch Tears of the Sun at 10:25PM at Regal Cinemas. Amazing how they finally changed the intro a bit but it's just a glamorized version of the same Regal theme they've been doing for like the past decade! Quick review of the movie: Other than the slow marching around, excessive sappiness, and many inconsistencies, the movie had few thinly spread action sequences that failed to make up for the rest of the film... even at $7.50 for student tickets I don't feel like I got my money's worth! =) Lots of cool guns and equipment though. The SEALs were carrying... 1 M60E3, 1 M60 Shorty, 2 M4/M203 Combos, 1 M14, 1 M4(?) Sniper, 1 M4 RIS (Willis), 1 suppressed M4 and a shotgun. =) Too many AKs to count on the Nigerian rebel side.

Ok, enough of that. On the other side of all the fighting going on, the story of human injustice, suffering, and misery in this world reminded me of how much this world needs Jesus. Man. If I were any of those SEALs, I hope I would've felt compassion for all those lost people. God wants all those people to come to repentance and I pray that the GCC Kenya team as well as all of the kingdom workers God is raising up all over the world will be able to make an impact in reaching these people groups... Need to spend more time in prayer as I even prepare myself to try and make a difference for God this upcoming summer in the region of Kensington, Pennsylvania...

Anyway, if any of my readers/visitors are here in Cali... call me up or send me an e-mail and we should meet up! =)

3/10/03 - Monday... and no 7 hours of class as I would have any other week! =)

I want to sleep in but I don't think I'll get to. Going to try to get 7.5 hours at least tonight. =)

Played with Jeannie yesterday. She is *fast*. Haha, chased her around the yard until I got tired and I just plopped down and soaked up the California sun while enjoying the view of the Pacific coastline...

It's nice not to have to depend on my schedule and calendar and just do whatever comes to mind! =)

I wonder if I'll get to meet up with PennCali peoples this break... we'll see. =)

3/11/03, 2056 PST - Added the time of posting to the News section. =)

Sorry for the late update to all of my 2 or so daily site visitors! =P

I'll post more for tomorrow's update in about 3 hours... I passed out yesterday from exhaustion from doing nothing. =) Wonderful times of refreshment is what I need and so I repent and turn back to God. =)

3/12/03, 0826 PST - Long overdue news reports:

Was encouraged by the anonymous message in my guestbook from "A Stranger From Seattle" on March 4th! Thanks whoever you are! =) My sinful nature wants to boast and say "ha! they say it's *evident* that I have a big heart for God," but I know that I need a bigger heart that only God can give me to love and care for the lost people God is seeking in addition to just loving Him. Anyway, only as a globally united body of Christ can the church really make a difference so thanks for dropping by! =)

Straight from the Ten Commandments, in today's verse, just reminded that this is the first commandment with a promise... Honor your parents to live a long, full life! Do I want to live a long, full life? I'd rather go home!! =P Well, I'll still try hard to honor my parents because that is God's will and hopefully, God will call me home sooner than later! =)

I really should post what I have to say when I have to say it... Trying to remember all the dozens of things I knew I wanted to post but never got around to... =)

Wow. 2000+ hits! Exciting. =) I've decided I will post a ongoing record of the webhits so that I can get a sense of the number of visitors per day. I think it's mostly me making sure things work... =P

Will probably be updating the Photo Gallery as soon as I find time and I think I have a new method of linking files which will save webspace and allow me to create more extensive photo galleries! =)

Got a haircut yesterday. I think it looks... hmm... I think I'll post a picture and a poll and see what ya'll think. Probably do that tomorrow. =)

Hmm... nice weather in Philly and LA... Fog for Philly and Haze for LA... eww... the "haze" graphic is soo typically brown and nasty looking like LA smog... haha, it's a good thing I live on the other side of the LA basin and get *fog* not *smog*! So much for driving around and soaking up the sun! =)

Welps. Halfway through break! Enjoy!

3/13/03, 0226 PST - Spring Break's already more than halfway over... the final stretch of the last semester of the first half of college is drawing near an end! =)

Have been going to bed pretty late and waking up pretty early all these days... I'm going to need another break after this break! =P

Nancy and Leah came down to PV to visit yesterday so we managed to find some lunch on this forsaken hill and ended up playing in the tidepools down the cliffs in front of my house. =) We caught little crabs, hermit crabs, sea urchins, sea slugs, sea snails, sea starts, and saw sea anemones, oysters, sea gulls, abalones, fish and much more! We even tried to feed a hermit crab to a sea star... haha, that was fun. =) Watching a sea star flip over in the ocean is pretty boring too. =P

Anyway, I added an interactive section to my site! =P Check out the poll to your right and decide how my new look fits me! =) Apparently, my "old look" was just too *old* looking and I needed a fresher, younger look. =P However, the picture you see is my sad attempt to recreate the hair masterpiece created by my hair-cutter that I have no hopes of replicating. =P There's even an "Other" section which you can fill in with whatever you think!

And while you're here... why don't you sign my guestbook? =P I think there are more signatures from people I don't know than people I do... =D

Welps, pretty soon it'll be back to Penn and the real world... no more lounging around the house relaxing... these are the days to enjoy and take full advantage of! =)

Working on transitioning over all the pictures to linking from my FTP instead of hosting from the site... that should free up some space for me to put more stuff up eventually if I need to. =)

3/14/03, 0130 EST - Updating this in EST even though I'm in PST because otherwise, it'll be one day early. =P

Simple words of wisdom for today. Serve only God and He'll bless with the simple necessities of life and provide everything we need! =)

Went to Tony Roma's today to enjoy some baby-back ribs. =) Just couldn't keep smiling at how *nice* our waitress was. =) All those conversations about how West Coast waitresses are super-nice while East Coasters are unfriendly and rude kept coming to mind. =)

Anyway, I've managed to get some of you to vote on my polls by *telling* you to vote. =P haha. but yeah, that's for all the *flattering* comments! Thanks for keeping me humble! And a quick response to one of the "Other" votes...  you obviously haven't seen such pics of me as this one. =) Army? Nah... gotta be the Marines. =P

Added a new poll to build on my old one. Since I pretty much look like my "About Me" picture without the red... wondering if I can make it look better by adding a hint of color. =P Or is it bad enough as it is and I should leave it be? Let me know! =)

Gotta be up by 8AM again and not much to do but stuff to do tomorrow. =) Make sense? =P

Anyway, hope everyone has had an awesome spring break (for UPenn'ers that is... UCs are getting out like in two weeks?!?! =P) and is rested up for the finale of this semester! =)

Check out *another* awesome Cali sunset... this one from 3/12/03 =) (I forgot to change my res back to high... oh well...) =)

Site Visitors since last update: 2159

3/15/03, 0224 PST - Two verses for today from Philippians... gist of the message is that God will finish what He started in me and that I want to honor Christ whether I live or die. =) So if God finishing what He started means that I die a martyr... so be it. If he wants me to live a long, long life on this earth and wait patiently to go home to heaven... so be it! =)

Last day to spend in Cali... I hope it doesn't rain like everyone says it will... can't wait to get back to Philly and get some *rest*!! =P Been so busy running around and sitting around at home that I haven't had much time to just *rest*!! =)

Gotta be up in about 3.5 hours and another 40 mile drive so I can go 'soft with HSM at 7AM. =D Ahh... let's post a schedule for the day! =)

3/16/03, 1620 EST - Back in Philadelphia after the usual red-eye flight... tired. Must sleep. =)

Today's verse is from Pastor Young's message... just a reminder that we need to give thanks in action and thank God for even the littlest things! Thank you Lord for bringing me safely back to Penn and away from the rain in Cali!! =P

3/17/03, 1145 EST - Back to my 7 hours of classes today! =)

Lots and lots to do but it's encouraging to know that we have Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who allow us to communicate directly to God! Just like Moses got to talk to God in the Old Testament days! =)

Welps, 4 more classes to attend today.

Hope you have a great day! =)

3/18/03, 0043 EST - Yesterday was definitely a long, long day after coming back from a week of not-really-relaxing, but not being really busy, either. =)

Today's verse just reminded me about how Christianity really differs from all the other "religions" out there... in all other "religions," man is seeking god or seeking to be god... but we have a God who is passionate about a *relationship* with us! =) It's good to know that I have an almighty, omnipotent, infinitely-wise awesome God watching out for my best interests! =)

The weather here in Philly has been really nice these past few days! Too bad it can't stay like this and it'll get unbelievably hot, humid, sticky and nasty pretty soon... =D

12-1PM: History Recitation
1:30-3PM: Corporate Finance Lecture

3/20/03, 0135 EST - I have countless numbers of pictures to sort... probably this weekend will be a good time for me to go through it all and organize the 4-5 folders sitting on my desktop from various occasions full of pics... =)

Eventually, I'll re-organize this site so that it accesses files off the FTP as well... if you want to check out my music and photo archives, click here! =)

Being on the younger end of the spectrum in my class, I'm always encouraged by verses such as today's where Paul encourages younger Christians to live as examples in love, faith and purity. =) I hope that I've managed to be a positive not a negative influence on those around me...

Found this to be rather interesting while I was reading through 1st Timothy... "Don't drink only water. You ought to drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often." (5:23)... so is Paul commanding Timothy to drink?! =D

I will get much needed sleep tonight... Looking forward to the end of this day! =)

3/22/03, 1735 EST - Have decided that I do not need to update my site every single day since it is really time consuming and I haven't been a good steward of time these past few days/weeks...

Still, I find comfort in that God will never abandon me even when I sometimes feel "too busy" to fulfill all of my obligations and my duties... Thank you, Jesus! =)

It's amazing that I've had 15,000 page-views and 1,000+ unique visitors to my "other" secular site in 3 weeks...and I've had... I have no idea how many visitors here... =D

Eww. This update doesn't look too happy and joyful like I usually am. I think I need to pray more. =P

Penn's Jesus Week is starting off tonight with Gospel Jam tonight at 7PM Go check out www.pennforjesus.com for more info! =)

3/25/03, 0010 EST - So much stuff is happening lately that I can't seem to process it all... Constantly trying to keep up and catch up but always seem to be behind and just sinking deeper and deeper and deeper...

I guess it's about time that my bubble burst and that I return to the reality that I'm living in a fallen world and that I really can't do this on my own. God has a way of reminding me every so often that I really am nothing and that I truly need Him to make me be all I can be... my roller coaster ride of life was on an uphill or high plateau and I thought it was all good and that it could last forever... yikes! man. the problems that arise from complacency.

jesus week coffeehouse was today and i feel that God was revealing to me that i've become too comfortable and complacent in my life... <sigh> i really really really really need to take some time out to pray... needing God more and more and more and more and feeling pretty empty...

Looking forwards to the day when I can proclaim as Paul did that I've fought the good fight and finally finished the race... it's long and it's hard, but one day, it'll all be worth it...

3/26/03, 0755 EST - It's hard to be discouraged when you know that God loves you and offers so much hope, joy, love, peace, etc.!

PRAYER - Again, I need to pray *more*. Heh, this whole week it's been like "Hi Dan, this is God. Why don't you talk to me more? I want to help you!" "Dan, pray! I'm listening!". =D So yes, I will talk to Him more throughout this week and on.

Yesterday, even though I was feeling a bit down on myself, I went out to share my testimony with people as part of Jesus Week @ Penn. I just went because I signed up so I was feeling obligated to go and didn't really have the heart to really talk about my faith because I was thinking "How can I share about God's love and being a joyful Christian when I really don't feel it right now?" But for some reason, I still went. So I went with Dan and we started trying to talk to people. First person we approached and I started to talk to said "Sorry, I don't have time to talk. I'm about to leave." Then the second person we approached and Dan conversed with allowed us to talk to her for a little while. Anyway, to make a long story short, the afternoon was pretty much a sequence of "Sorry" "No thanks" and even "I *would* really mind if you even left a tract with me". However, as evening approached, Dan was like "Hey Dan, why don't we try to share with one more guy? How about him over there?" and I was thinking inside "Gosh. Do we have to? All these people really don't care and I'm not feeling so great as it is..." but I reluctantly agreed thinking it'd be a quick "Sorry, no thanks." and we could be done. Yet, that's not how the story ends. When we approached Scott, he was open to my sharing about Jesus and how He's changed my life. I was really encouraged by his open attitude and even desire to know God. But even more, God just reminded me through my own sharing of all He's done for me how I have an awesome God who has a plan for me that there's no reason for me to be sad, tired or discouraged, but to really just seek Him! And today's verse is all about finding rest and peace and the power of God's Word. =)

Hope you have a blessed day! =)

3/29/03, 1735 EST - All Night Prayer Vigil last night was a really blessing time and really gave me the opportunity to put into practice what God's been impressing in my heart for a while now. I want to be a man of prayer who truly hungers after God! =)

Campus Wide Worship tonight at 7PM @ DRL A-1! It's going to be packed and we're gonna worship God as one body in Christ! Come on out and meet God and other believers! =D

3/31/03, 0243 EST - So yesterday... God decided that we don't get to have spring just quite yet and that we should experience a few more days of winter... =D Last day of March and just about a month left of school...

My going abroad next fall is going to mean that I don't get to experience the fall season for a while. We just finished winter and are heading into spring and summer. When I arrive in Chile on July 18th, 2003, it will be the middle of winter again, and I will stay through spring and summer only to return to the States to return to winter in December all the way back to spring and summer through 2004... =D Fun huh? =P

Another week, another opportunity to live life purposefully!

Have a wonderful day! =)

4/1/03, 0943 EST - Yay! It's April! Go away winter!! =D

Off to class, swimming, class, and famgroup today.

Debating whether I should just let gravity-defying hair on my head continue to grow through April or if I should make it all go away! =D

4/3/03, 1623 EST - It's been a long week. Glad that it's Thursday and I can look forward to getting some rest before another rough week coming up.

4/6/03, 2223 EST - And it's been an even longer weekend still... I honestly am getting quite exhausted... and getting sick on top of that... not good... not good at all... why is it that God always reminds me of how much I need Him by taking me through these valleys? =)

Trusting in his promise that He will complete what He's started in me until Jesus comes back... so no matter how long it takes, no matter how hard it is, no matter how much it stretches and changes me, I will have faith that God can and will use me for His kingdom. =)

Please pray for me that I will keep relying on God and that He will bring me peace and healing. I don't know how I'm going to get through the rest of the year let alone this upcoming week without Him... Thanks.

4/8/03, 0010 EST - Same requests as yesterday... News Archives =)

Can't believe it snowed yesterday! It's supposed to be spring by now! Had to bust out the winter clothes all over again... =D

Will I get to sleep soon? I hope so. =)

4/10/03, 0230 EST - <yawn> just woke up after a nice 3 hour or so nap... =D Mmm... uninterrupted sleep... lovely!

Had a wonderfully horrid night of tossing and turning yesterday night... silly paper due at 10AM... I just couldn't wake up... extremely exhausted and tired and all I could dream about as I tossed and turned was how I could try to get an extension... I even dreamed that I was at home(??) or somewhere far away from school so that I could tell my prof that I couldn't help it for some reason or other... only by God's grace was I able to finally wake up and madly produce a relatively complete paper by noon and get it to my prof during recitation... Now... time to go back to sleep soon I hope... =)

Anyway, today's verse is so very true. Being cheerful has the effect of encouraging both myself and others while a broken spirit will sap one's strength and those around... so be happy! =D

4/12/03, 0420 EST - It's already 1/3 of the way through April and it still feels like winter. Spring Fling isn't really "Spring" without spring! Haha. I wish it weren't Spring Fling... the noise is quite unbearable! They started yelling "Wake up!!!" over the loudspeakers yesterday around 11AM because there was nobody out there because it was cold and wet and dreary and all...

Missions Presentation coming up this Sunday. Practicing and getting ready. =)

Easter is next week... looking forward to being home. =)

Grad night presentation is in two weeks. Preparing for that should be fun, too. =)

I should probably go to sleep soon. =D

Ok. G'nite! =P

4/13/03, 1940 EST - Wow. Today was very tiring but also very blessing. Got to go to all three services today for our Missions Presentations! =)

Anyway, yes, please pray for us because God will hear your prayers and rescue us! =D

Tired but so much to do. Must press on... =)

4/17/03, 1123 EST - Going home today. Taking half my possessions back home and stuff. =)

Mmm... weather here got yucky again... hoping home will be better...

Easter is approaching... Thank you Jesus for loving me and giving it all for me! =)

4/20/03, 0138 EST - Being reminded of the Good News that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and he was raised from the dead today almost 2,000 years ago so that I might have salvation and eternal life!

Looking forward to finishing up this semester and continuing to seek His will in obedience. Who knows where He'll be leading me next? =)

4/29/03, 0208 EST - Wow. Been 9 days since I've updated... Anyway, updated a few minor details of the site... Changed the "Verse of the Day" to "Verse of the Week" as the year comes to an end and my ability to update daily in the next few weeks appears dubious. Removed the silly polls I had up before... apparently some people thought I was serious... =D

Anyway, as Finals approach this week and next, the appropriate verses would be the section of Matthew 6. =)

Don't worry, be happy! Finals Schedule as follows... please pray for me!: =P
Thursday, May 1st, 1:30PM - BPUB203
Friday, May 2nd, 1:30PM - MGMT101
Thursday, May 8th, 1:30PM - FNCE100
Friday, May 9th, 8:30AM - HIST011

G'luck on Finals everyone and let's finish off this semester strong!! =)

5/8/03, 2033 EST - This may be my last update for a long time... packing up the room and the computer will be shut down and everything... yikes. summer's already here and it's time to get moving!

Been an awesome year and hope ya'll have a great summer! =)

Penn people... if I don't see you again in the next few days... see you in 2004!! =)
