Remove all articles of clothing except underwear. Open wide and say “ahh”. Poking and prodding. Breathe in and breathe out deeply. Check blood pressure and pulse. Smoke? Drink? Sexually active? Exercise? Urine sample. Examine ears and nostrils. Drop your shorts. Blood samples.
Getting a routine physical can be a pretty… embarrassing and potentially humiliating process! Baring all and allowing another to thoroughly examine every aspect of one’s body in order to identify any causes for concern.
And yet, most people (those who follow what they’re supposed to do, anyway), go see a doctor to get an annual physical year after year…
Why?
Because doing so ensures that one will live a healthier life and preempt any serious illnesses, right?
Anyway, I guess I had one meaningful thought after completing my annual physical checkup…
What would be the spiritual equivalent of an annual routine checkup?
