Xanga II

Will these sequel posts never stop? I’ve still a few left on my unofficial upcoming ideas list in my head in addition to the countless other jumbled thoughts that will one day get translated into somewhat coherent words. =)

Anyway, back to this Xanga thing.

When I first really started using this thing just shy of a year ago, I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen with it. Obviously, I’ve become what many would consider a “heavy” user.

Yet, in one year, I’ve yet to answer the question that I initially posed about Xanga

Anybody want to tell me how I can mass select a whole bunch of people to subscribe to? Haha, it’s a strange concept of subscribing to other people’s journals. Imagine getting a magazine in the mail every day with all your friends’ journal entries. That’s essentially what I’m getting in my e-mail. =)

The main question being… How do I find the people that I know??

And obviously, with some people’s sites, they’re so anonymous that it took me till now to realize that I did in fact know who they are in real life. =)

I think I just subscribed to like 50 people today. (If you are one of them, please do not be alarmed. =P)

Since I haven’t yet figured out how to mass subscribe to everyone I already know… and I can’t seem to differentiate between those I know that I know in real life and those who I might not really know… lately, I just started to subscribe to those who I think I might know or eventually get to know because they’re in the same blogrings that I’m a member of (under the premise that if we’re in the same blogring… we’re somehow part of some larger real-life community =P) . And I think it’s just easier to get everyone’s occasional posts in the mail and discover that I do, in fact, know X or Y –or not– from reading their posts rather than not having a clue at all. =)

Very, very strange how this new world works. I’m still confounded that there are people that I got to know through exchanging comments on Xanga before officially meeting in real life. (You know who you are.) =)

Sometimes I wonder what it might’ve been like to live in the 1800s when Internet, telephones, cars, planes and the like were not even science fiction yet! To live within 10 miles of your birthplace your entire life… and to be ultimately close to those you grow up with because they’re the people you know and care about.

In today’s digital and global era, you might easily know 300+ people (at any given time… while few might actually be considered “close”) . Heck, I just upgraded my cell phone which allows me to store 500 numbers now instead of the 200 limitation I had with my previous phone… Now I’m allowed to have more than 200 people’s numbers! (well, just up to 500 now… =P)

But the point is… you aren’t really as close. I just finished watching Crash   and a line spoken by Sandra Bullock’s character after she sprained her ankle resounded in my mind…

Carol was the only one that was home and she said she couldn’t come get me because she was getting a massage. [Husband: That's because she's a *****] She’s been my friend for 10 years.

Talk about a superficial relationship. And now I’ve digressed from my post on Xanga back into the topic of Friendship

Anyway, that is all for now. How about this. If I haven’t subscribed to your site yet and you know that you know me (and vice-versa of course!)… let me know so I can subscribe! Haha. =)
