Early Morning Swim

For the past week, I’ve been meaning to take advantage of the swimming pool here at my hotel.

And I finally did! =)

Wow. It felt good to submerse myself in the water and swim a few laps this morning (0700 to 0730) .

Reminded me of college when I used to swim 1.25 miles per session for about 5 miles per week! (I think I swam about 10 laps before being madly out of breath. Haha, that reminded me of trying to swim a lap in the Bolivian altiplano which is probably 10,000+ feet above sea level.)

Anyway, I missed swimming and I think I’m going to make an effort to take advantage of every opportunity to when I’m sent traveling!

I think water reminds of God’s love. =)

Think ocean. Think deep and wide. Think “Deep Deep Oh Deep Down Down.” =)

Being submerged in God’s love is the best place to be… and being enveloped by warm water swimming laps is a great place to spend time reflecting and in prayer. =)

Spring Break 2007

Yes, you read that correctly. =P

Spring Break 2007 as in I want to go!! =)

I suppose the idea for Spring Break 2007 came from the inevitable truth that after graduation, many of those I used to see all the time have been scattered and the young adult life seems to be one in which quality time spent with one another is greatly diminished. (and perhaps, by some of the GCC’05 brothers wanting to go back and some of the sisters wanting not to be left out again… so let’s all go! =P)

Seriously, what better way to bond than to spend a full week with a bunch of people you enjoy being with? =)

Let’s take a quick look back at the past few breaks…

Spring Break 2006 – Huh? What’s that? The first year without… Welcome to Young Adult life. =)

Spring Break 2005 GCC Class of 2005 road trip to Orlando, Florida.

Spring Break 2004 Seven Guys, Seven Days in Acapulco, Mexico.

I suppose I’m just reminiscing about the fun and fellowship that occurred both in 2004 and 2005… and, in fact, the 2005 trip was also one in which those of us who hadn’t known each other too well previously got to spend time to get to know each other!

But I’m probably also remembering more of the 2004 trip as I’ve been back in Mexico since last Tuesday and will be back here again next week (for work, of course! =P)

From relaxing on the beach and by the pool, to deep-sea fishing (or sleeping, for some) , para-sailing, to hold’em on the beach, to football and soccer on the beach (and against some locals) , to jet skiing, to eating lots of good food, to enjoying beautiful sunsets into the Pacific from a nearly secluded beach…

But I suppose more than just being here… I miss the company of friends who made the experience that much more memorable…

I remember worshiping together that first Sunday by the beach praising God and admiring His amazing creation…

Anyway, I’d like for it to happen again. =)

Not even sure how many people that might be or how many would even actually be able to come… (not everyone might be able to take days off or have a spring break that coincides…) but it’d be nice to take a week to just relax and spend time in fellowship together for those who might be able to, eh? =)

So then, to the matter of logistics.

When: Tentatively, either Saturday, March 3 , 2007 through Saturday, March 10 , 2007 or Saturday, March 10 , 2007 through Saturday, March 17 , 2007. (I think that’s when spring break would be for those who’ll be in grad school?)

Where: Acapulco, Mexico

Airfare is probably going to be the biggest expense. Tickets from the NY or LA are about $400-$450 right now (Philly is a lot more expensive so you’d want to fly out of NY)

Food will likely depend on what people end up wanting to do… Eating out can be expensive but there are grocery stores  (and Wal-Mart and Costco) and kitchens available so food could probably be like $70 ($10/day?) for the whole week if people decided to cook. =)

Lodging would normally be in excess of $280 per person (~$40 per night?) for the week at this resort but it would probably be a nominal $5 per night per person (for the same room type/amenities!) .

Other than that, other costs might include local transportation and souvenirs/gifts…

The biggest expense, airfare, is likely to go up as it gets closer to March (I know it’s like 9 months away) , and as it gets closer, airfare will be more like $800-900 (or more!)!

So, would anyone be interested in going? (Even if it’s only 5 people or so that can go, I think it’d be a memorable time!) =)
