Food
There are three things that are pretty much considered to be essential in this life.
Food, Shelter & Clothing.
Hmm. Perhaps clothes aren’t exactly essential… if one had food and a warm place to stay, one could technically survive without clothing… =)
Maybe I’ve got it wrong. Maybe it was… businesses will always exist that produce food, shelter or clothing because these are things that people will always buy… necessities.
Anyway, food is obviously on my mind at this time. =)
Why? Because, in the past few days… I’ve been eating three hefty meals per day as opposed to my usual two meals when I’m not traveling.
All this tends to mean two things. One, my wallet stays closed and I don’t need to be stingy about food . =) And two, I’m getting that much closer to disaster . =P
Actually, for the first time in a while, I’ve enjoyed eating again. Seriously, food in NYC for me has pretty much meant either eating out or ordering in from the same places over and over for 99% of my meals. The big question we’d ask everyday at work would be “What’s for lunch?” knowing we’d answer the same way every day and eat the same food over and over and over…
Now, the main problem when it comes to food for me is that I am one who tends to clean my plate.
Food is good. It’s delicious. But as always, everything with moderation.
Yet, in this day and age of supersize everything and ultimately oversized portions, how is one to exercise moderation…? Maybe the key is… exercise? =)
The obvious response would be… just practice self control and don’t eat everything!
However, ever since at least college (maybe high school or perhaps earlier?) , I developed a (what I consider good) habit of eating everything that is in front of me.
In fact, that’s probably why I eat broccoli and other vegetables now. =) I used to dislike broccoli and avoid it like the plague but ever since college and those Chinese food trucks that serve General Tso’s chicken over broccoli… I just started to eat it all because: 1) I don’t like to waste food, and 2) I figured it was good for me. =)
So yeah, I don’t like the idea of wasting food when there are people in the world who are starving.
I suppose that my eating all the food in front of me all the time won’t actually do anything to alleviate world hunger… but throwing it away doesn’t either.
Is it better to throw enough food to feed a bunch of hungry children away at every meal or to eat it all and become obese as much of America has become with its supersize meals?
I’m not too sure. But I’m starting to lean towards eating only half of the food placed in front of me at all my meals… I know that eating everything on one’s plate can be misinterpreted in different cultures… so maybe it’s a good thing?
If I continue to consume as much as I have in the past week, I think I’ll end up needing to support the fashion industry and replacing my entire wardrobe! =0
Neck Girth
This past week, I was forced to button up the top button on my shirt and wear a tie because the dress code at my client was formal.
And I could hardly breathe.
In the past few years, I’ve noticed that my neck has gotten bigger and bigger. Which has meant that I’ve had to buy shirts with bigger and bigger neck holes.
From wearing 15 1/2″ shirts back in high school, I’ve thickened a full inch to now wear 16 1/2″ shirts that barely fit (my neck) .
And yet, I still wear the same jeans that I purchased 5 years ago with no problem… (well…) =)
What kind of exercise must be done to make one’s neck thinner?!?! Haha, I am at a loss for words… and if I keep this up… I’m going to have to bump up to 17″ shirts which will result in even looser fitting shirts (because obviously, thicker neck implies thicker body… some shirts that I have could fit TWO of me inside!!). Yikes!
Yeah, I have the same tendencies with food as you do. Try saving some for later.
hahaha…it’s the cheap asian in you, you can’t let anything go to waste. i’m like that too. well actually, so my theory about food is that i’m only allowed to eat if i’ve exercised that day sufficiently to burn it. this theory only works when you exercise, obviously. =) the other thing is trying to discern the difference between being hungry or not. the state of not being hungry happens way before you’re full, you know?
anyways…no idea about the neck thing though…sorry! =)
I’m a plate cleaner too… But, I’m learning how to use the ‘to go’ box!
Screen names don’t have to be changed every so often to show change, haha. i’ve had mine for years too. how did you come up with yours anyway? 516? hmm.
